59th Grand Chapter Conclave – This July, NY Xi sent two brothers, Alex Yang (‘25) and Teddy Almond (‘28) to the 59th Conclave in Tampa, Florida.
During the four day stay, the two learned valuable skills and lessons about how to better chapter life. They heard from speakers and attended legislation where they voted to help dictate the future of the fraternity.
Specifically, the two heard from speakers on strategies to increase recruitment. SigEp stated clearly that they wanted to be the largest fraternity in the country, and in order to achieve this, they are spearheading campaigns to increase membership at the chapter level. While NY Xi is the largest fraternity on the UR campus at the moment, NY Xi strives to increase its membership by implementing some of the strategies discussed in Tampa.
Some of the points raised during the conference emphasized that chapters should better their relationship with not only the student body, but with the school administration. At a school, like UR, where there is already a tumultuous relationship between Greek life and the administration, it is key to show that NY Xi is different from its on-campus competition.
In addition to attending the conferences, the delegates from NY Xi met with staff to help better their social media presence during Fall recruitment as well as heard advice from SigEp higher-ups on how to improve the chapter’s relationship with the school.
