NY Xi Hosts MERT Event – A joint event with UR’s volunteer student medical response team MERT in anticipation of this year’s Dandelion Day.
During this open event, MERT hosted workshops where campus community members learned life-saving techniques such as CPR and AED training, how to tie a tourniquet, and when to use NARCAN.
Brother Noah Paradise (‘27), who also volunteers for MERT, helped coordinate the event along with his colleagues which was hosted at the SigEp house.
Other than the workshops, topics also covered at the event included how to use fentanyl test strips, identify the signs of overdoses and heat strokes, and how to use an AED.
The coordinators explained that extra life-saving equipment such as NARCAN, safe-sex supplies, and drug test strips can all be found at the University Health Center’s Wellness Vending Machine, located in the lobby of the health center’s office, free of charge.
