On Saturday, November 2nd, the brotherhood hosted the first annual Mark Zaid Garbage Plate Run. Contestants, who competed as individuals or in teams of two or three, ran around campus, ate a garbage plate, and ran around campus again before crossing the finish line. The event, which hasn’t been held in 4 years, was revamped in a combined effort from VP Programming Jacob Wheeler, Ian Krager, and event sponsor Mark Zaid. Zaid, a NY Xi alumni and a 1989 graduate of the University of Rochester, has recently made headlines as an attorney in the Ukraine whistleblower case.

The winner of the individual category, Georgios Astidaftis (pictured above), commented that he had “never done an event like this before, so thanks to the brothers of ΣΦΕ for putting it together and giving me the opportunity! It was a fun and unique experience, and after having done it once, I can’t wait to shave some time off and defend my title next year! I’ll make sure to get in a ton of practice!”
In all, the event raised over $300, which was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester.
